Breakfast until three, a market next door, and the memorial across the lot. Come and see it – or ring ahead and we'll be expecting you.
Before you set off
On California's Highway 46 at Shandon – 19215 E Hwy 46, roughly 45 miles east of Paso Robles and 35 miles west of Lost Hills. The cafe sits right at the roadside, so you'll see the sign before the turn.
Every day of the week, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Breakfast runs all morning – and the coffee is on from the moment the doors open.
Yes. The stainless-steel monument stands beside the cafe, built in 1977 by Seita Ohnishi of Kobe, Japan, in a garden of hand-polished stones. The junction itself was named the James Dean Memorial Junction in 2005. You're welcome to walk over whenever you like.
Please do – ring (805) 362-0609 a day ahead for six or more and we'll set the tables together before you arrive.
There's parking right out front, off the highway. Plenty of travellers stop in mid-drive for breakfast, stretch their legs at the memorial, and pick up road supplies from the market next door.
Groceries, snacks, cold drinks and the daily essentials – the things you want for the miles ahead, plus a few local finds worth taking home.
